PhD Graduate Programs

spacer Joint Graduate Program in Molecular Biosciences, sponsored by Rutgers and UMDNJ
. This program is for students interested in pursuing a PhD in the molecular biosciences, including molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, developmental biology, and genetics. This is a combination of seven different graduate programs on the Rutgers/UMDNJ New Brunswick campuses and includes over 200 professors. Students should apply to directly Joint Program in Molecular Biosciences for admission. All of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry faculty are members in the Molecular Bioscience Program.

spacer BIOMAPS Graduate Program in Quantitative Biology - This program is for students interested in pursuing a PhD in computational molecular biology whose primary background is in Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science or one of the other physical sciences. Many Rutgers/UMDNJ faculty serve as graduate student thesis advisors in both the BIOMAPS and Molecular Biosciences programs.

MS Graduate Programs

Students interested in pursuing a terminal MS degree in the molecular biosciences should apply directly to the Graduate Program in Cell & Developmental Biology or the Graduate Program in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Many of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry faculty belong to both of these programs.

spacerNSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program -
The National Science Foundation aims to ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the United States and to reinforce its diversity by offering approximately 1,000 graduate fellowships in this competition. The Graduate Research Fellowship provides three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based master’s or doctoral degrees and is intended for students who are at the early stages of their graduate study (Students must apply before they have completed 12 month of graduate study). The Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) invests in graduate education for a cadre of diverse individuals who demonstrate their potential to successfully complete graduate degree programs in disciplines relevant to the mission of the National Science Foundation.

spacerNSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants in the Directorate for Biological Sciences
The National Science Foundation awards Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants in selected areas of the biological sciences. These grants provide partial support of doctoral dissertation research to improve the overall quality of research. Allowed are costs for doctoral candidates to conduct research in specialized facilities or field settings away from the home campus, to participate in scientific meetings, and to provide opportunities for greater diversity in collecting and creativity in analyzing data than would otherwise be possible using only locally available resources.
